Here are some of the questions we frequently get asked:
- How close are you to Algonquin Park?
We are 46 km (less than 45 minutes drive) from the East Gate of Algonquin Park. It is another 10 km or so to the Visitor Centre, the Logging Museum, and dozens of hiking trails.
- Can we bring pets?
Unfortunately, we do not allow pets at this time.
- How private is the cottage?
It is pretty private. We are on 1.2 acres of land, and you can’t see any neighbours from our deck or waterfront. There is a cottage across the narrow part of the lake that is visible, and the rest of the lake is wild.
- Where can we buy supplies?
The nearest towns are Maynooth or Madawaska. Both have very nice general stores, a bank, and a liquor store. They are about 15 minutes away. For more extensive shopping and groceries you could go to Bancroft or Barry’s Bay, both about 45 minutes away.
- Do you get cell service?
Yes, on the Bell or Rogers networks.
- How big is the lake?
Cross Lake is about 1 km wide and 3 km long, and 50 m (150 feet) deep. Seventy five percent of it is Crown Land, with only about 50 cottages spread out on the entire lake.
- Is the lake good for swimming and fishing?
Yes, we have excellent swimming from our waterfront. The lake is deep and not weedy. And the fishing is great! We have lake trout, perch, and bass.
- What boats does the cottage rental include?
We have two canoes, a kayak, and a paddle boat that you are welcome to use. If you want to bring your own power boat there is a public boat launch nearby.
- How far are you from Toronto?
It is a 3.5 hour drive from Toronto, and about 2.5 hours from Ottawa.
- Are bed linens and towels supplied?
Linens are not normally provided with the cottage rental. However, for people travelling without them, they can be supplied for an additional $30/bed. Pillows and blankets are always included.
- What activities are available at the cottage?
Please have a look at our Activities page. Canoeing, hiking, swimming, fishing, ATV’ing, geocaching, visiting Algonquin Park, or shopping in Barry’s Bay are all popular activities. The cottage also has a collection of board games, as well as an outdoor firepit for roasting marsgmallows.
- How does the damage deposit work?
The damage deposit is $500, and is in addition to your cottage rental fee. It will be returned to you approximately two weeks after your rental, after we have ascertained that there was no damage to the cottage and that you left it clean and tidy.
- What is your cancellation policy?
Our cancellation policy is in keeping with other large rental websites. A 100% refund is given for renters cancelling at least 60 days before check-in. A 50% refund is given for renters cancelling from 30 to 59 days before check-in. No refunds are given for renters cancelling less than 30 days prior to check-in.
